Green Features of Lotus Garden
Lotus Garden was designed to meet the strict requirements for the LEED Gold certification. Built on a hillside in the Chinatown area of downtown Los Angeles, Lotus Garden originally housed five single-story homes. The present property now offers 60 spacious, affordable apartments for individuals and families earning 30%-60% of the Los Angeles County AMI. Here are some of the steps Affirmed Housing took to earn the Gold and to make life easier and more convenient for Lotus Garden residents.
A nearby paved pedestrian trail now connects the property and adjacent hillside neighborhoods with the public transportation, library, schools, commercial, retail, medical and entertainment facilities below. Lotus Garden is on the Blue Rapid Transit Line and within walking distance of light rail lines. For residents who wish to ride bicycles, the buildings offer elevators for convenient transport to and from the street.
To help make Lotus Garden more comfortable and to save residents money on utility bills, Affirmed used double-pane vinyl windows, superior insulation, and energy efficient heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Apartments are equipped with energy saving lights, plumbing fixtures and appliances. A central laundry room is outfitted with efficient washers and dryers.
A green rooftop offers approximately 4,000 square feet of recreational space and incorporates gardening plots, a tot lot, barbecues and places to socialize, relax and enjoy the Los Angeles skyline.
